China's Great Wall was built to protect agriculture and people from the northern tribes. The wall was originally built in the Ming Dynasty of bricks that were produced in kilns. It was built over more than two thousand years. This portion from Jinshanling to Simatai is about a 3 hour drive from Beijing and takes about 4 hours to hike.
