Manang is a main stopping point on the Annapurna Circuit, complete with an airport where some hikers fly in to cross the Thorong La pass. I was there for the Yartung festival horse race, which traditionally celebrates the return of animals from mountain pastures. The winner of the races has to be both fast and skillful as the rider has to pick up a khata (silk ritual scarf) from the ground in full gallop!
