Pashupatinath Temple

Pashupatinath Temple

Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most significant Hindu temples in the world, located on the banks of Nepal's Sacred Bagmati River in Kathmandu. To Hindus the body is seen as an instrument to carry the soul and the reason to destroy the corpse by fire is to induce a feeling of detachment into the freshly disembodied spirit, which will encourage it into passing to its next destination. It is believed that being cremated here or in Varanasi India where the rivers are supposed to be the holiest increases your chances of reaching enlightenment.
